Segmental mantels (circa 1860 to 1880)
 | Mantels / Italianate mantels / Geometric mantels / Segmental mantels Segmental mantels are known by their characteristic segmental arch over the firebox. They were sometimes produced with classical elements and sometimes with decorative period details. They were a less common mantel type of the 1870s. The more common shelf types associated with this mantel in catalogs were shelf A (the type shown here, half of catalog examples) and shelf E (25%); the shelf was not specified for another quarter of segmental mantels.
