Segmental mantels (circa 1860 to 1880)

Segmental mantels are known by their characteristic segmental arch over the firebox. They were sometimes produced with classical elements and sometimes with decorative period details. They were a less common mantel type of the 1870s. The more common shelf types associated with this mantel in catalogs were shelf A (the type shown here, half of catalog examples) and shelf E (25%); the shelf was not specified for another quarter of segmental mantels.
