Full-Width Mirror Overmantel (1880 to 1917)

Mantels / Queen Anne mantels / Large Overmantels / Full Width Mirror Overmantel

These mantels were characterized by the mirror extending completely over the mantel shelf. The two shelves were sometimes expressed as entablatures. The jambs included a variety of elements, including freestanding columns, rounded pilasters, or flat pilasters. A common option found in about half of the millwork catalogs showed the lower shelf interrupting the columns, rather than having full-height columns. The lower shelf was often rounded in the middle in catalogs around 1905.
