The Hook Lift & Lock was a device mounted on the bottom rail of a lower sash and onto the window sill. The part mounted on the sash included a plate and a swivel hook. The hook could be raised to operate as a lift or lowered to fit into a catch that was attached to the sill, which prevented the sash from opening. The lift and lock first appeared in a hardware catalog in 1887 (Orr, page 508) and was included in most hardware catalogs until the Woodwell catalog of 1927 (page 479). Throughout its production, companies offered both decorated and plain versions, although the decorated versions were last offered in 1914.
